Internet Desk: This will be the first time the sisters Serena and Venus will meet in a Grand Slam final since Wimbledon in 2009.

The American tennis player Serena Williams, second in the world ranking, qualified today for the final of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year, where she will face her sister Venus.

The former women’s circuit leader beat Croatian Mirjana Lucic-Baroni, 79th in the world ranking in two sets by 6-2 and 6-1 in just 50 minutes.

Serena Williams will face her big sister Venus in the Australian Open final, who also won in the other semi-final, compatriot CoCo Vandeweghe, to become the oldest player to reach the tournament final. Thirteenth seed Venus, 36, beat fellow American Coco Vandeweghe 6-7 (3-7) 6-2 6-3 to reach her first major final since 2009.

Serena Williams currently has 22 Grand Slam titles, sharing the trophy record in the ‘Open era’ with Germany’s Steffi Graf, being two of the total maximum, owned by the Australian Margaret Court.

This will be the first time that sisters Serena and Venus will meet in a Grand Slam final since Wimbledon in 2009.
