Australian media cries foul after video shows Ravindra Jadeja applying ointment on finger | INDvsAUS

Xtra Time Web Desk: On a day Team India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja made a stunning comeback in test cricket with a five-wickets haul against Australia, he was also dragged into controversy. A video has surfaced on the social media where during one of his spells on Day 1 of the first test, Jadeja was seen applying ointment on his fingers, triggering a huge debate. The Australian media have instantly started crying foul, suggesting ball tampering by the Indian spinner. Neither BCCI nor ICC match referee Andy Pycroft have commented anything on the incident.

The video showed Jadeja receiving something from his teammate Mohammed Siraj and then applying and rubbing that on his left index finger, something that had Australian media interested.

The Australian media were quick to latch onto it, suggesting ball tampering on Jadeja’s part.

However, a BCCI source told PTI that it was an ointment for pain relief for the sore finger”.

Australian batters David Warner and Steve Smith, who are both playing this test match, served bans for their role in the ball-tampering scandal in 2018 in South Africa.
