XtraTime Web Desk – With the win against SC East Bengal, ATK Mohun Bagan now won both the times they played their arch-rivals in the Indian Super League. On an important night, Roy Krishna once again stood up and delivered for the Mariners.
ATK Mohun Bagan started the game unlike their character. They used their pace and their four attackers Roy Krishna, Marcelinho, David Williams and Manvir Singh had a lot to do. The later one almost got a chance to score in the 7th minute mark itself but he failed to convert it. ATK Mohun Bagan however didn’t have to wait for long to get their first goal.
In the 15th minute mark, Roy Krishna put the Mariners ahead. No one could stop his run as he dribbled past Subrata Paul to score. With that goal, Krishna now scored in six consecutive games and ATK Mohun Bagan looked really strong at that moment.
Not everything looked bad for SC East Bengal though. Bright Enobakhare showed few glimpses of what he can do but no one stood with him and whatever chances they were creating was getting wasted. They however managed to pull one back in the 42nd minute. Tiri’s header went straight into his goal and the match finished on level terms after half time.
In the second half, ATK Mohun Bagan did just what they do, that is scoring goals. The intent was clear right from the whistle but the result came in the 72nd minute when David Williams scored the goal from Roy Krishna’s assist and few minutes before the final whistle, Javi Hernandez scored from a header. Roy Krishna beautifully set it up for Javi to score and sealed the deal for the Mariners.
With this win, ATK Mohun Bagan went five points ahead of Mumbai City FC but most importantly, they have once again earned the bragging rights. They now have won five consecutive games and will face Hyderabad FC and Mumbai City FC next. Can they finish in the top of the league? Time will answer.
