“Don’t think the opponent has done much, I think we helped them”: Tony Grant

XtraTime Web Desk – The season was already over for the red and gold brigade. After some disappointing performances, SC East Bengal were already out of the top four equation but they had a lot to go for. If they would’ve managed to beat ATK Mohun Bagan, things could have been different for SC East Bengal but it isn’t.

What’s next completely depends what the management wants but for players they have two more matches to prove themselves if they want to continue in SC East Bengal. Bright Enobakhare had a decent match against ATK Mohun Bagan and he was the one who changed SC East Bengal’s fortune after signing for the club.

Coach Robbie Fowler has a two year contract with the club but time will answer if the management would want to continue at the club.

Assistant coach Tony Grant in the post match conference said, “It was a good Derby game. Both the teams went at it. It was very honest game, strong game. Honestly, the turning point was the sloppy goal. We have experienced players at the back. It’s Derby game, it’s one each and if gifted them the second goal”.

He added, “Its a Derby game. I don’t think the opponent have done much. I think we helped them”. He went on to say that the second goal demotivated the team. “Of course (the second goal demotivated the team). The team was 1-1. We had Bright running in. The opposition has defended well to be fair but we gifted them the goal”.

Speaking about the dressing room atmosphere post the match, Tony Grant said, “The dressing room was really quite after the match. The Indian boys knows the importance of the Derby. It’s a huge Derby and it’s not nice to lose them”.

When asked about the future of the players, Grant said, “We don’t know. We actually don’t know what’s happening in the next season. Hopefully all will be answered in the next week or so”.
