Asia Cup 2023: Rain forces India versus Pakistan Super 4 game to be shifted on reserve day in Colombo

Xtra Time Web Desk: There is a high chance of play again getting washed out on the reserve day of the Asia Cup Super-4 game between India and Pakistan. According to the weather forecast there is 80-90 percent chances of showers again in Colombo on Monday.

The Asia Cup Super-4 game between India and Pakistan had to called off because of heavy showers on Sunday.  The game had to be abandoned after just 24.1 overs in the first innings due to rain. In their encounter with Nepal, rain truncated the game, but a result was achieved as Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill successfully chased down a revised target.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and opted to field. Rohit Sharma started aggressively, hitting a six off Shaheen Shah Afridi. Gill then played an outstanding innings, particularly targeting Afridi, who had dropped him earlier. India raced to a strong start despite Rohit Sharma’s initial struggles against Naseem Shah.

Shubman Gill’s excellent batting against Afridi forced Pakistan to remove him from the attack. Faheem Ashraf and Haris Rauf slowed the run rate, but the Indian openers had already settled in. Rohit Sharma scored a solid 56 before falling to Shadab Khan, ending a 121-run opening partnership.

Rain interruptions plagued the match despite the ground staff’s efforts. Umpires inspected the affected areas twice and scheduled a third inspection for the Reserve Day, activating it for September 11. India will return to the field on September 11 and 12 for their Super 4 match against Sri Lanka, but the weather forecast for Monday remains unfavorable with a high likelihood of rain from afternoon to evening.
