Asia Cup 2022: Ton up Virat Kohli, Bhuvneshwar’s five-fer give India thumping 101 runs win over Afghanistan

Xtra Time Web Desk: Indian team ended their Asia Cup 2022 campaign with a thumping 101 runs win over Afghanistan in the Super 4 clash at the Dubai International Stadium on Thursday night. The star of the night was Virat Kohli who scored his maiden T20I ton. It was his first international century after exactly 1019 days. The last time Kohli scored a hundred was against Bangladesh in Pink Ball test at Eden Gardens in November 2019.

Kohli’s 122* off 61 Balls and Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s 5 wicket haul powered India to a resounding win in their final fixture of this edition.  Like the last two matches, India had to bat first after losing the toss against Afghanistan. KL Rahul was leading the team in place of Rohit Sharma.

Virat was promoted to open the batting with Rahul who contributed 62 off 41 balls. The Men in Blue posted a mammoth 212/2 in 20 overs.

Chasing 213 runs to win, Afghanistan could only manage 111/8. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the wrecker in chief, claiming 5 wickets in his 4 overs and giving away only 4 runs. Ibrahim Zadran was the highest run scorer for Afghanistan with 64 not out off 59 balls.
