Asia Cup 2022: Bangladesh could host tournament if political crisis worsens in Sri Lanka | Reports

Xtra Time Web Desk: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has offered to host the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 if the political situation in Sri Lanka is not improved. The island nation is facing the worst economic crisis in four decades which has also caused political unrest in the country.

The current political crisis in Sri Lanka may not be ideal to host Asia Cup 2022, scheduled for August-September this year. Although the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) was determined to organize the Asia Cup there, it looks off the table for now.

Things have changed dramatically in the Island nation after protestors took over the President’s residence last week, set Prime Minister Wickremesinghe’s private residence on fire. President Gotabaya  Rajapaksa was forced to resign. The effect of the political unrest in the country was also seen during the second Test at Galle between Sri Lanka and Australia when protestors gathered outside the stadium.

According to a report in Dainik Jagran, the tournament can shift to Bangladesh if the unusual situation is not improved in Sri Lanka.
