XtraTime Web Desk – ATK Mohun Bagan and Chennaiyin FC shared a point after both the teams played offensive football for most part of the game.
Being said that, both the teams missed some really good chances to go ahead but failed to make the mark. Chennaiyin FC were creative in their approach as Sylvestr and Chhangte looked to put pressure on Mariners. Arindam Bhattacharya were brilliant and saved few shots that could’ve been a goal for Chennaiyin. ATK Mohun Bagan did attack but it wasn’t that constructive from their end. The 5-4-1 formation was tough for Roy Krishna to adapt as he was the lone striker with very little support upfront.
In the 29th minute, Edu Garcia put a low cross to David Williams which he failed to control. He was tackled but referee didn’t call it for a penalty led to a controversial decision but the ATK Mohun Bagan players didn’t complain much. Arindam Bhattacharya was brilliant and few here and there from both the teams was the highlight of the first half.
Second half was much more constructive for both the sides. ATK Mohun Bagan’s defense opened up a few times but it was again Arindam Bhattacharya who rescued them from Chennaiyin. ATK Mohun Bagan was maintaining a high line and that’s what Chennaiyin were taking advantage of. ATK Mohun Bagan attack didn’t seem to trouble Chennaiyin at a point. The formation looked too rigid for the players. Roy Krishna gave everything but he played the role of number 10 and thus ATK Mohun Bagan missed a number 9 in this match.
Arindam Bhattacharya kept on making crucial saves. He saved 8 shots while ATK Mohun managed to keep two shot on target. Arindam rescued a point for ATK Mohun as he went on to keep another clean sheet this season.
The happy news for Mariners from this 0-0 draw will be that that are now top of the table with 17 points from 8 games. Chennaiyin on the other hand has 10 points from 8 games and are currently at 7th position in the table.
