Diego Maradona – The Legend and His Visit to Kolkata in 2K16

Internet Desk :If things go according to plan, then Argentine maestro Diego Maradona, one of the all-time favorites of the football, is likely to have a tour of north-east India and West Bengal in the second week of December 2016.

‘North East for Child Rights’, an NGO which works on child rights and protection issues and has an office in Mumbai, have reached out to the World Cup winner and is trying to get him as the chief guest for a couple of youth championships before the Christmas break.
“The tentative plan is that Diego will address the media in Kolkata and then visit both Shillong and Aizawl during 12th and 13th December. In both those places, he will be a guest in the finals of junior football championships. These are very early days of the plan though,” the source informed.
The NGO has also written to the Chief Ministers of the two north-eastern states, seeking their help. They have also opened talks with potential sponsors for the events.

First Visit of the Legend:

The legend had first visited India in 2008, when thousands thronged the Salt Lake Stadium to see him juggle the ball for a couple of minutes. The fanaticism was similar in Kerala, when he visited the state in October 2012.

It will be interesting to see whether the likes of Mahendra Singh, the national director of Child Rights Initiatives at Human Rights Law Network, will be able to bring him to India again.

The last time Maradona came to India, was back in 2008 which created a huge buzz in the City of Joy among all age groups starting from – eight to eighties. If he comes again in December, then it will surely create a new hype on the eve of the FIFA U17 World Cup.
