Ajinkya Rahane to play for Leicestershire after tour to West Indies

Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India senior batter Ajinkya Rahane is all set to play for English county side Leicestershire after the tour to West Indies. It will be the second stint for the cricketer from Mumbai having been a part of Hampshire country in 2019 season. Rahane recently made a successful comeback in test cricket during the recently concluded ICC World Test Championship Final 2023 against Australia at the Oval.

Ajinkya has penned down a contract with the English county side and will play eight first class games and the Royal London Cup (50 overs domestic competition) between June to September. He was supposed to play earlier in the season but had to postpone his plan due to the IPL followed by WTC Final.

“Ajinkya, after the two Tests in West Indies (which is supposed to end on July 24), is supposed to fly directly to England and join Leicestershire for the remainder of the season. He will play Royal London Cup in August and a possible four County games in September as he is unlikely to be a part of white ball scheme of things,” a BCCI source in know of things, told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Rahane recently completed 5,000 runs in 83 tests. He will be eyeing a successful county stint with Leicestershire before the year end tour to South Africa.
