Kolkata: Bengal commenced their Ranji campaign at home promisingly with Abhishek Raman showing a purple touch.

Later he talked to the media and said, “For Bengal it is after one and half years and yes it is a privilege to have scored my first hundred at the Eden Gardens. It has been a couple of times I got dismissed in 90s previously but I am satisfied scoring 176 runs but dissatisfied as I could have contributed more to the team total. Even today when I was playing my innings and was in 80s I was a bit nervous but my captain instilled the belief in me and kept motivating me to add more to the Bengal scoreboard and hold on to my game. The pitch as it appeared had a good bounce in it but after settling on the pitch it facilitated me to play good strokes as it always have been facilitating the batsmen and bowlers alike.”

As Raman played a flourishing inning, the Bengal squad couldn’t be happier at the close of the day one in their first home encounter. In a post-match interaction, Bengal skipper Manoj Tiwary said, “Today was a good day for us and Abhishek Raman put up an excellent show scoring176 runs and we couldn’t be happier. He is a player with great potential and he has proven his worth. We hope he puts up big runs in the upcoming matches.”
