Abhimanyu Easwaran likely to replace injured Rohit Sharma for Bangladesh test series | BANvIND

Xtra Time Web Desk: As anticipated India captain Rohit Sharma is likely to miss the upcoming two match test series against Bangladesh starting from December 14. Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran is likely to be named as a cover up for Rohit in the test series. Abhimanyu is currently leading Indian A side in Bangladesh and is in red hot form, smashing two consecutive centuries against Bangladesh A. Easwaran scored 141 in the first test and 157 in the second.

Rohit, who bravely all pain to go into bat and almost won the 2nd ODI match against Bangladesh has a dislocated left thumb. He is back to Mumbai to get further checks done on his thumb.

“Abhimanyu Easwaran has scored back-to-back hundreds in the ongoing A Test series and is an opener. In all likelihood, he will join the squad in Chattogram after finishing his second A Test in Sylhet,” a senior BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

If Rohit is officially ruled out of the test series, then vice-captain KL Rahul will open the batting with Shubman Gill.

Left arm spinner Saurabh Kumar is also likely to replace Ravindra Jadeja while Umran Malik or Mukesh Kumar can be named in place of Mohammed Shami, who has injured his right shoulder during training after coming back from Australia.

It is also understood that Umran Malik or Bengal seamer Mukesh Kumar, who has consistently performed for India A, might take Mohammad Shami’s spot who is currently injured.
