ABANG Chosen As The Mascot For 5th State Games

Kolkata : For first time in the history of State Games  a mascot and a tagline have been chosen . The mascot for the event , named ABANG ( acronym for Amar Bangla ) has been conceptualized by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who has also decided the tagline, “Esho Kheli” . The 5th State Games will also have a theme song composed by Pilu Bhattacharya .

The biennial sports event, organized by Bengal Olympic Association will be held from January 18 -21 ,2016  in various parts of West Bengal including Kolkata and the SAI Complex at Salt Lake.

Also for the first time there will be as many as 5000 odd participating players including prominent medalists of recent times who will go through a process of online registration, to participate in this 4 day sports tournament which will have 34 events consisting of individual and team events like Archery, Boxing, Kabaddi, Football, Swimming, Cycling, yoga and etc.

The Department of Sports and Youth Services of the state government will provide the sporting venues free of charges and the Bengal Olympic Association has joined hands with State Bank of India to cover all the participants and officials with an Accident Insurance Cover of Rs 200,000 for one year.

The Games, an event dedicated to Netaji, will provide a platform for the participants to showcase their talents in their respective fields and inculcate sportsmanship among the citizens of the City of Joy.
