Xtra Time Web Desk: Cricket in India is more than a religion. Only a handful of cricketers get a chance to represent the country on international stage. In India there have been a few famous father son duos who donned the India cap. While in some cases the father was comparatively more famous than the son and in others the son stole the spotlight from the father. Here is a list of 5 prominent fathers and sons who have played for Team India post Independence: Lala Amarnath-Mohinder Amarnath The most illustrious father-son duos to have played for India are Lala Amarnath and Mohinder Amarnath. Lala Amarnath was considered a living legend of the Indian cricket. He was the first Indian test captain post independence and also holds the distinction of scoring a century on debut against Australia. Although the senior Amarnath played just 24 Tests in his career, he left a lasting impression on Indian cricket by also playing the roles of selector, coach and a manager. His son Mohinder played for India in 69 Tests and scored 4378 runs, including 11 centuries. Mohinder was also an important member of Kapil’s Devils that lifted the historic 1983 World Cup at Lord’s. Sunil Gavaskar-Rohan Gavaskar Sunil Gavaskar was regarded as one of the finest batsman in the world, let alone India. He was also known as the ‘Little Master’. He was the first batsman to eclipse the magical figure of 10000 runs in test cricket. Sunny has also captained India in the Tests and ODIs. He was a member of the Indian team which lifted the World Cup in 1983. Known for his brilliance with bat, especially against fast bowling, he had a career batting average of 51.12 in Tests. He left his best for the West Indies averaging 65.45 against the fearsome pace battery of Holding, Marshall, Roberts and Croft.  His son Rohan could not live up to the expectation of his illustrious father as he only managed to play 11 ODI’s for India, notching up only a half century. Roger Binny-Stuart Binny Roger Binny was one of the most versatile all-rounders for India. Like Sunil Gavaskar, he too was a member of the victorious Indian team that lifted the Prudential Trophy in 1983. He finished as the top wicket taker (18) in the tournament. His son Stuart is also a medium pacer and a decent middle order batsman. Although, he featured in just six Tests and fourteen ODIs, he is best remembered for his stunning figures of 6/4 against Bangladesh in 2014. Lack of consistency led him getting dropped from the Indian team. Vijay Manjrekar-Sanjay Manjrekar Vijay Manjrekar was regarded as one of the best players of fast bowling. Since making his debut in 1952, the senior Manjrekar featured in 55 Tests for the country in which he scored 3208 runs that included 7 tons and 15 fifties. His son Sanjay Manjrekar never fulfilled the early promise that he showed with the bat, he carved out a more than decent career for himself. Sanjay played 37 Tests and 74 ODIs for India, in which he scored 2043 and 1994 runs respectively. Yograj Singh-Yuvraj Singh Yuvraj Singh had a far more illustrious career than his father Yograj Singh. Yograj Singh played only one Test match and 6 ODIs for the national team before an injury put an end to his cricketing career. His son, Yuvraj developed into one of the finest all-rounders to have played for the country. A cracking left handed batsman and a tricky slow left arm bowler, Yuvraj was awarded the Man of the Series award in the 2011 Cricket World Cup 2015 for his brilliant all-round performance. His epic 6 sixes in an over in the T20 World Cup 2007 in South Africa against England, was simply a treat to watch. Pankaj Roy-Pranab Roy Best known for his world record opening partnership of 413 with Vinoo Mankad, Pankaj Roy represented India in 43 tests. Since making his test debut against England in 1951-52, Pankaj Roy scored five centuries during his Test career, amassing 2442 runs in 79 innings at an average of 32.56. He also led India in a Test match in England in 1959, a game that England won by 8 wickets. His son, Pranab Roy have also represented India in two test matches and scored only 71 runs.
