Kolkata : His experience in Atletico de Kolkata in the Indian Super League Season 2, wasn't been a memorable one despite scoring a couple of great goals in the opening game of the competition against the mighty Chennaiyin FC side in an away game. The Portugese superstar and former Atletico de Madrid forward Helder Postiga had to go back to Spain for nursing an injury which forced him to go out of the ISL in the previous season. The former team-mate of Cristiano Ronaldo has come back as the marquee player again this season to enlighten the hopes of the Atletico De Kolkata fans. He has already got the captain's arm band as well. The super marquee met the press for the first time this season with team-mates Iain Hume, Arnab Mondal and team owners Sanjeev Goyenka & Utsab Parekh today where he revealed his mission for the new season. Here goes the excerpts:
Q: You missed the last season despite having a dream start in the previous season. How much challenging is this season for you?
Postiga: It was tough for me last season. But I played club football in Portugal in the last five months and I'm feeling fantastic now. I also had the preseason with ATK and I hope I am ready to prove myself in the new season to help my side.
Q: Do you think that the combination between you and Hume is going to be the deadliest attacking force this season?
Postiga: It's better if Hume answers this (laughs). No, honestly the most important thing is the team. Hope our combination will be even better this season to help the team. Moreover I hope, both of us can score goals, can create good opportunities and play some good football for ATK.
Q: What do you think about the standard of the domestic footballers you have in your team?
Postiga: ISL has been one of the most competitive leagues in the world and I believe we have a bunch of quality players. I trained with few of them in the preseason in Spain and they seemed really good. I hope in next few years India will be in the World Cups, Asia Cups as these players can only get better.
Canadian star forward Hume said regarding Postiga," I'm hopeful too(laughs). It makes your job easier when you have players Like Postiga in your side. As Postiga is there on the upfront, I am ready to play wherever the coach wants to put me in. In the end, the team matters the most and we both are looking forward to it."
