2nd Test, Day 3: Ravindra Jadeja shines with the ball as India win Delhi test by 6 wickets to retain Border Gavaskar Trophy

Xtra Time Web Desk: Ravindra Jadeja took 7 wickets as India defeated Australia by 7 wickets on Day 3 of the second test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday. The win also saw India retaining the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The Australian batters were all at sea against Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin as they were bundled out for a paltry 113 runs in the first session. Chasing 115 runs to win, the hosts reached home with 6 wickets remaining. Cheteshawar Pujara remained not out on 31 while KS Bharat scored a quickfire 23 not out off 22 balls.

KL Rahul’s poor run of form continued as he was caught behind by Alex Carey off Nathan Lyon for just 1 run. Indian captain Rohit Sharma looked good as he raced to 31 runs off 20 balls but a terrible mix-up with Pujara saw him get run-out. Virat Kohli was stumped trying to step out against Todd Murphy for 20 runs. Shreyas Iyer too did not last long for his 12 runs.

The day belonged to the Indian spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin. Matthew Kuhnemann, Nathan Lyon, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins, Peter Handscomb, Marnus Labuschagne, and Usman Khawaja succumbed against the spin of Jadeja. The all-rounder registered 7/42 which is his best career figure in Test. Ashwin accounted for Matt Renshaw, Travis Head, and Steve Smith.

India have now won their last three Test series against Australia, including two down under. Rohit Sharma and his boys also ensured they cannot lose this Test series with two more matches left. The last time Australia had the trophy with them was back in 2014-15 after winning 2-0 at home.
