2nd ODI: Shai Hope, bowlers give West Indies 6 wickets win over India, level series 1-1

Xtra Time Web Desk: In a thrilling encounter between West Indies and India, the West Indies pulled off a remarkable upset by successfully chasing down a target of 182 runs with 13.2 overs to spare. Shai Hope and Keacy Carty were the heroes for the West Indies, putting on an unbeaten partnership of 91 runs after the team lost four early wickets. Kuldeep Yadav reignited hope for India by dismissing Shimron Hetmyer, but it was not enough to stop the determined West Indian batsmen.

Earlier, India, captained by Hardik Pandya in the absence of Rohit Sharma, got off to a strong start thanks to a riveting 90-run opening partnership between Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill. Kishan scored 55 runs, but the middle-order faltered, and regular wickets disrupted India’s innings. Gudakesh Motie and Romario Shepherd were the stars for West Indies, picking up three wickets each, while Alzarri Joseph accounted for two scalps.

Despite Hardik Pandya’s efforts, leading the team and scoring seven runs before being dismissed by Jayden Seales, India could only manage 181 runs before being bowled out in just 41.5 overs. The disciplined and measured performance of the West Indian bowling attack played a significant role in their strategic dismantling of India’s batting line-up.

The third ODI is scheduled for Tuesday, August 1, at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad. After this surprising victory, the West Indies will look to continue their winning momentum, while India will seek to win the series.
