1st Test, ENG vs IND: First test match ends in a draw as umpires call off play on Day 5 due to persistent rain
Xtra Time Web Desk: Much to the disappointment of fans, the first test match between India and England at Trent Bridge has ended in a draw after umpires officially called of any play on Day 5 due to persistent rains. Both teams will feel let down as they had an opportunity to go 1-0 ahead in the five test match series. The hosts required 9 wickets whereas India needed 157 runs. The two teams will get 4 WTC points for a draw.
The start of day five got delayed twice following which an early Lunch was taken. There was supposed to be an inspection at IST 7pm but that did not happen as rains continued. Virat Kohli will feel robbed off a win as India had 9 wickets in hand and required just 157 runs to win.
Both sides will now travel to London for the second test match which starts at Lords from August 12.
