Xtra Time Web Desk: A brilliant performance from the Indian bowlers led by Ravichandran Ashwin gave India a vital 62 runs lead at stumps on Day 2 of the first Day Night test against Australia at Adelaide Oval. India finished the day on 9/1 with Mayank Agarwal (5*) and Jasprit Bumrah (0*) batting at the crease.

Earlier in the day the visitors were bowled out for 244 runs adding only 11 runs to their overnight score. After resuming innings at 233 for 6, they lost four wickets for 11 runs. In fact, India lost seven wickets for 56 runs starting with Virat Kohli’s run-out engineered by a poor judgement call from vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane. Pat Cummins (3-48) removed Ravichandran Ashwin (15) caught behind with the third ball of the day and Wriddhiman Saha (9) departed in similar fashion in the next over after offering a poor shot to a Starc delivery. The Aussie pacer also fired out Umesh Yadav to finish with figures of 4-53 from 21 overs. Cummins then dismissed Shami for a golden duck to end India’s innings.

Australia did not have the greatest of starts as well as both openers were dismissed quickly. After Bumrah removed the two openers in the first session, Ashwin took over in the second session. The off spinner set up Smith with a few that were flighted with the angle and then bowled one that straightened and bounced a touch more. Smith, expecting turn, squared up and Ajinkya Rahane at first slip made no mistake. Marnus Labuschagne (47) and skipper Tim Paine (73 not out) were the top scorers for the hosts in the first innings.
