1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev suffers heart attack, undergoes angioplasty at Delhi Hospital

Xtra Time Web Desk: Former world cup winning Indian captain Kapil Dev suffered a heart attack on Friday and has been admitted in a Delhi hospital. The legendary cricketer underwent angioplasty and has been stable as per reports last received. It is reliably learnt that he had the attack in the morning and was hospitalised.

Kapil Dev led India to glory in the 1983 World Cup at Lords. He is one of the greatest cricketers to have graced the game. Regarded as one of the finest all-rounders in the history of the game, Kapil Dev amassed over 5000 runs and has also taken 434 test wickets (which was a record during his time).

He made his debut against Pakistan in Faisalabad in October 1978. He went on to represent India in 131 Tests, amassing 5,248 runs in addition to picking up 434 wickets. He has also represented India in 225, ODIs, scoring 3,783 runs and picking up 253 wickets.

He has always led from the front as India defied all the odds and beat the mighty West Indies in the final at the Lord’s to register a historic triumph. After retiring from the game in 1994, he served as the head coach of the Indian team for a brief period in 1999. He has excelled in his role as an expert commentator.

Former Indian Cricket captain Mr. Kapil Dev , age 62 years, came to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute (Okhla Road) emergency department at 1:00 am on 23rd October with a complaint of chest pain. He was evaluated and an emergency coronary Angioplasty was performed by Dr. Atul Mathur, Director of Cardiology Department, in the middle of night. Currently, he is admitted in ICU and under close supervision of Dr. Atul Mathur and his team. Mr. Kapil Dev is stable now and he is expected to get discharged in couple of days.
