11 goal thriller in ISL as SC East Bengal goes down against Odisha FC

XtraTime Web Desk – 11 goals in a single match as Odisha FC beat SC East Bengal 6-5 in a classic thriller. This scoreline also went into record books as this is the highest number of goals scored in a single ISL match.

The match wasn’t as healthy as the scoreline suggests. Both the teams wanted to end the season on a high note and SC East Bengal started well into the match. They picked the first goal of the match as Anthony Pilkington scored for the red and gold brigade in the 24th minute.

They however couldn’t hold the lead for a long time. Lalhrezuala took the opportunity and scored in the 33rd minute after SC East Bengal players failed to clear the ball from the corner. Just 3 mins later, SC East Bengal reclaimed their lead. Ravi Kumar tried to clear the ball but it hit his goalkeeper and SC East Bengal went 2-1 up.

Second half was more about Odisha. They scored five in the second half and it’s Paul Ramfangzauva who started the party. Just a couple of minutes later, Jerry scored for Odisha and all of a sudden SC East Bengal were in backfoot as just in a gap of 2 minutes, Odisha went on to take a 3-2 lead over SC East Bengal.

SC East Bengal was down but not out. Aaron Hallaway scored his first goal of the season in the 60th minute to level the score at 3-3. Odisha resumed the party in the 63rd minute as Paul scored once again and in the 65th minute Jerry completed his brace to put Odisha much ahead of SC East Bengal.

Diego Mauricio joined the party and scored his first in the 69th minute to make the scoreline 6-3 for Odisha. However, the fighting spirit of SC East Bengal was once again displayed as Jeje scored his first goal in 2 years to pull one back for SC East Bengal in the 74th minute. Halloway closed the party in the 95th minute as he scored to end the match with a massive scoreline of 6-5.

Nothing changed in the table with this huge score line though. Odisha remained in the 11th spot with 12 points from 20 games and SC East Bengal finishes the season in 9th place with 17 points from 20 games.
