Xtra Time Web Desk: It was a special moment at the Windsor Park on Day 2 of the first test match between India and West Indies as both Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma slammed centuries. Yashasvi playing in his first test match remained unbeaten on 116 at Tea while Rohit notched up his 10th test ton. The left hander played 244 balls for his 116 not out at Tea, which included 12 boundaries. He showed tremendous temperament as a youngster playing in his first test match of his career.

The young cricketer from Mumbai also etched his name in the record books by scoring a century on his Test debut against West Indies. Jaiswal reached the milestone on the second afternoon of the match, and was the 17th Indian to do so, nearly 90 years after Lala Amarnath’s century at the Bombay Gymkhana against England.

Starting the day on 40 not out with India at 80-0, Jaiswal reached his maiden fifty as the opening partnership flourished and the team crossed the 100-run mark. In a patient innings, Jaiswal hit 11 four and took 215 balls to complete his hundred.

Jaiswal, just 21, earned his Test cap after showcasing his talent and setting records in domestic cricket. The elite group of Indian batters to have a hundred on debut includes Gundappa Viswanath, Mohammad Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag and Rohit Sharma, Jaiswal’s captain who was at the other end when he brought up his ton.

Jaiswal's achievement also makes him the fourth-youngest Indian to achieve the feat at the age of 21 years and 196 days. He is the third Indian opener to score a century on debut, following in the footsteps of Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw.
