Xtra Time Web Desk: The New Zealand cricket team underwent a special practice session ahead of facing India in the first semi-final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede stadium on Wednesday. The BlackCaps batters including the likes of Kane Williamson, Tom Latham, Daryll Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra were seen batting in the nets against a left arm spinner and a chinaman bowler. The reason is to prepare well against Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav.

The BlackCaps had an optional practice session with pace spearhead Trent Boult and Lockie Fergusson not turning up. Senior pacer Tim Southee and Kyle Jamieson had an extended spell in the nets with the Kiwi team management likely to play either one depending on the wicket. While Southee brings in a wealth of experience, Jamieson can utilise the bounce on the Wankhede wicket because of his height.

Kane Williamson-led side will enter the semi-final as ‘underdogs’ against Team India who have been undefeated so far. The side faced a few hiccups in the middle phase of the tournament with injuries to their key players but they will have a settled and fit squad to pick from for the big clash.

All-rounder James Neesham, who was ruled out for the Sri Lanka clash due to a wrist injury, will return in playing XI and is likely to replace Mark Chapman.

BlackCaps batting will once again rely on their inform openers Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra. The latter has been a revelation scoring 565 runs so far. Captain Kane Williamson, who has recovered from thumb injury, has looked in great touch.Tom Latham will keep the wickets. Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, and James Neesham will be the three all-rounders for the Kiwis. Mitchell Santner will lead the spin attack while Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson and wither Tim Southee or Kyle Jamieson will be spearhead the pace attack.
