File pic[/caption] Internet Desk: Indian captain Virat Kohli is confident that his team is good enough to take on the best in the world ahead of long domestic season. The Indian team is set to play in 13 test matches at home starting with the test match against New Zealand at Green Park in Kanpur from Thursday. Kohli believes the Indian team certainly has what it takes to be the best in the world. “We believe we certainly have what it takes to be the best team in the world. It’s all about confidence and being able to express yourself is the key for this team and that’s what this team has done. That’s why we’ve been able to win seven-odd Test matches in the last 13 or 14 that we played – because we wanted to go out there and play bold cricket and take some risks. More often than not if you’re fearless, the results will fall your way because you’re willing to take that extra risk in the course of the game. I certainly feel that this team has what it takes to be the best. What it requires is sustained concentration, practicing the same way everyday… you know doing boring things. At this level you need to be boring if want to be successful, as simple as that. Your training, your practice, the way you prepare for games should not change. Whoever can do that for a sustained period of time will obviously be a very good side and this team has the potential to do well over a period.” The test match in Kanpur also marks the 500th test for India. Kohli and his team are confident of making it all the more special. “Well, I feel this season is a phase where we can lay a foundation as to where the Test team can go or Test cricket can go as far as India is concerned. We started off really well. This team is full of exciting players who are very talented, as we all know. The challenge for the last year or so has been to show composure in Test cricket and get the victories that are required. We have been able to do that. So the important thing is to continue the same,” said a confident Kohli. The pitch at Green Park is likely to help the spinners as it has been the case over the years. Talking about the pitch, Kohli said, “Well we are used to it. Doesn't matter what the wicket looks like. We are going to play good cricket. We are not worried about. There's no point focusing on it.” The Indians did have had their shortcomings against quality spin bowling in recent times. The test match at Galle is still afresh in the minds of the Indians, as they succumbed against the spin bowling of Rangana Herath. On being asked whether playing quality spin bowling have been a concern or not, Kohli commented, “Concern is a wrong word. It is an area that we can improve. We have lost a Test match in Sri Lanka because we could not play spin as well as we wanted to. But we rectified that. The team wants to improve that aspect of the game. It is something that we surely need to get stronger at. What has happened is that there was so much being built up about us not being able to play well away from home that we kept focusing on playing fast bowling, and we got really good at it. We countered conditions really well in England, in bursts, in South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. We sort of didn't pay that much attention to spin. That was one area we could have worked more on. Now we are putting in more effort, to face the spinners longer in nets and practicing small little things by ourselves.” The Indian team management is likely to go in with three spinners with Md Shami being the lone fast bowler with Ishant Sharma being ruled out due to chicken gunia. But the eventual decision will be made only after looking at the wicket before the toss. The Indian captain did hint at going in with four bowlers. According to Kohli, “The combination can be anything. We obviously can’t disclose it now. We always keep our options open till the morning of the match. But from the 12 that we select we tell them, that 11 among you will definitely play. Some conditions we might not need the fifth bowler. So we have to be smart about the combination that we play. Plus it's basically our thinking to solidify our batting a little bit more and see which four bowlers can come into play. Lastly, talking about the new look New Zealand side, Kohli feels,“They’re a pretty good side. They play good, positive cricket, that’s what we have seen in the last couple of years. A lot of credit would go to Brendon McCullum as he got in those ideas, where they played fearless cricket. One thing that stood out for me in their mentality was that cricket wasn’t the end of the world for them. They just enjoyed the game. Kane’s been leading the side really well and he’s a very exciting cricketer himself. We expect really good competition and good, hard-fought cricket. They’re a side that doesn’t give up and they have pretty skilful players in their team.”
