Virat Kohli emulates Don Bradman, joins elite league of batsmen

Virat Kohli on Sunday reached the milestone of scoring three double hundreds in tests in a calendar year.

Internet Desk: Virat Kohli on reaching his third double century in tests this year on Friday has emulated the legendary Sir Don Bradman. The Indian test captain is the fifth batsman in the world after Michael Clarke (4), Don Bradman (3), Ricky Ponting (3) and Brendon McCullum (3) to score three double hundreds in a calendar year.

Kohli scored his first double hundred in the first test against the West Indies at Antigua, while the second was against New Zealand in Indore. He is also the first batsman in Test history to score double hundreds in three successive series.

The Indian captain Virat maintained his superlative form as he hammered his third double hundred this year to help the hosts take firm control over England on day four of the fourth Test at the Wankhede Stadium today.

Kohli brought up his 200 off 302 balls amidst loud cheers of Virat Virat slogan. He raised his arms in jubilation looking towards the sky. He had the packed Wankhede standing to their feet.

Kohli’s majestic knock included 23 fours.  He also shared a record 200-plus stand for the eighth wicket with lower-order batsman Jayant Yadav, who also scored his second Test fifty.
