Kolkata: In profession he is a homeopathy doctor. He also has a wrist watch shop at Rajabazaar area. But Akhtar Harun of Park Circus is no longer bothered by that business. But the 69 years old man is training cricket regularly with the youngsters thrice in a week at Inspiration Cricket Academy of the Dalhousi Club. The 69 years old is blotting energy from the game itself.

He was born in 1948. He started playing the game when he was only 10 years old. There was a time when the all-rounder used to play in CAB league cricket regularly for Bata Club against the likes of the late Ambar Roy, Dileep Doshi, Sambaran Banerjee and Arup Bhattacharya. He also saw Pankaj Roy’s batting live at the Eden Gardens.

But due to the pressure from his family and business, he was compelled to leave the game of cricket. And then there was a gap of almost 20-25 years when he had no connection with the game. The kitbag used to be at the corner of his room, untouched. But his passion for the game never disappeared. That is why he resumed the training again a couple of years back. He trains with the equal intensity like the other youngsters do at Hamza Feroz’s Cricket Academy. He knows the worth of having top fitness to play the game.

The academy coach Sambhu Banerjee too is delighted to have a student like him. His passion amazes him as well.
