They are not just two names, they were the pillars of 'Team India', which skipper Sourav Ganguly built after he became the captain of the team in 2000. Though the two had started playing together long back from 1996 and the bromance continued till 2007. The two legendary cricketers scored 6609 runs in 136 innings as an opening pair and in this partnership they scored 21 hundred and 23 fifty partnerships. Their tally of runs remains the highest in the list of partnerships as openers. Overall their tally is 8227 in 176 innings with 26 century and 29 half-century partnerships. Their run tally remains at number one. 258-run partnership vs Kenya Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly were in spectacular form in an ODI against Kenya in 2001. They put on a then-record 258 for the first wicket – Tendulkar ended up scoring 146, and Ganguly scored 111. Thanks for the two batting first India scored 351/3 and in reply Kenya could only score 165/5 and the Men in Blue won the game by 186 runs. 252-run partnership vs Sri Lanka It was the final of the Nidahas Trophy which took place at Colombo on July 7,1998. Skipper Mohammed Azharuddin won the toss and elected to bat first. Proving his decision to be the right one Sachin and Sourav shared a record partnership of 252 runs for the first wicket which gave India a huge advantage in the final. It was the highest opening run-stand back then. While Tendulkar slammed his 17th ODI ton and scored 128 from 131 balls (two sixes and eight fours), Ganguly scored a fine 109 from 136 balls which included two sixes and six fours. The Lankan bowling attack comprising of Wickramasinghe, Bandaratilleke, Dharmasena, Muralitharan were taken to the cleaners as Ganguly and Tendulkar cut, drove and pulled with panache to guide India to a formidable total of 307/6 in 50 overs. Later India went on to win the match by six runs. 244-run partnership vs Namibia Both Sachin and Sourav hit classy centuries in this game as India registered a thumping win over Namibia during a group stage match in 2003 World Cup in South Africa. Put in to bat on a greenish and damp pitch, Indians paced their innings well to finish at 311 for two with Tendulkar notching up his highest World Cup score of 152 from just 151 balls and Sourav ending his run-drought with an unbeaten knock of 112. The Indians then bowled out Namibia for 130 in 42.3 overs to clinch a 181-run victory. Yuvraj Singh was the most successful bowler, claiming four wickets for just six runs from his 4.3 overs. Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh and Dinesh Mongia took a couple of wickets each. 197-run partnership vs Zimbabwe In Coca Cola Champions Trophy final, India won the toss and elected to field first. Indian bowlers did a very good job after restricting Zimbabwe for just 196 in 50 overs. India won that final with ease. Thanks to Sachin Tendulkar’s 124 and Saurav Ganguly’s 63 runs. The openers shared an unbeaten 197 runs partnership to give India an excellent win. 175-run partnership vs Australia In this match Sachin hit his 13th ODI ton which helped India to win the game against Australia at an ease during the fourth match of the Pepsi Triangular Series in Kanpur. After the then Australia captain Steve Waugh won the toss and chose to bat, the visitors put on board 222/9 in 50 overs on the back of Ricky Ponting top-scoring with 84 (139). With bowling figures of 10-0-46-4, India pacer Ajit Agarkar was the pick of their bowlers. Tendulkar, who opened the batting with Sourav Ganguly (72), stitched a match-winning 175-run opening partnership at a healthy run rate.
