Xtra Time Web Desk: Former India cricketer Utpal Chatterjee has decided to donate his body after death. Popularly known as David in Kolkata maidan, the former Bengal captain is actively involved in many social activities with one of them being the secretary of Uttar Kolkata Udayer Pothe. He is also associated in the posthumous autopsy movement. 58-year-old Utpal, a highly respected cricketer was on Friday named as the brand ambassador of a philanthropic organization named Ganadarpan, which has been playing a major role in the state of Bengal for three and half decades. The Vice President of the organization Bikasharanjan Bhattacharya posthumously honoured Utpal Chatterjee as the brand ambassador.

Talking about Utpal Chatterjee the cricketer, he was unfortunate to not get enough opportunities to represent the country in international arena. He just played three ODIs and picked 3 wickets including a best of 2/25 against Pakistan.Utpal was selected in the Indian team at the age of 30 in an ODI against Bangladesh in Asia Cup match at Sharjah. He took 1 for 28 in his quota of 10 overs. In the next match against Pakistan, Chatterjee proved his mettle by taking 2 for 35 off eight overs against Pakistan, his victims being Moin Khan and Ghulam Ali. But he was harshly treated by the New Zealand batsmen in the first ODI the visitors played the following season, conceding 54 runs off 8.5 overs and was not considered again.

However, Utpal continued to play with much success for Bengal and touched peak form in the 1999-2000 season when he took 52 wickets in the Ranji Trophy. He holds an incredible record of 504 wickets from 129 first class games. He was later appointed the coach of Bengal as well.
