The way Yashasvi applied on that wicket was good to see: Paras Mhambrey

Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India’s bowling coach, Paras Mhambrey, expressed his satisfaction with the performance of debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal in the first Test against West Indies. Jaiswal fell just 17 runs short of breaking the record for the highest score by an Indian batter on Test debut, scoring an impressive 171 runs. Mhambrey praised Jaiswal’s ability to adapt to the slow pitch and demonstrate patience, despite his reputation as an aggressive batter in shorter formats.

Mhambrey emphasized the significance of adapting to different conditions and situations at the international level. He commended Jaiswal for meeting the team’s expectations and playing a vital role in the match. The bowling coach believed that Jaiswal’s exceptional performance, along with his previous achievements in the IPL, would boost his confidence for future games.

“I think the way he batted, it’s been fabulous. For a debutant to come in not on an easy wicket – it was obviously a slow wicket that got slower as the game progressed. Strokemaking wasn’t easy. If you look at the way he’s batted earlier, he’s the kind of a guy who likes to take on the game, likes to play his shots but the way he applied himself on that wicket was very good to see,” Mhambrey said in the post-match press conference.

“I think that’s what you need at the international level, to be able to adapt yourself to different conditions and situations. More importantly, that was expected by the team and he did that role for the team. It was very heartening and positive to see and from the performances that he’s done, it should give him a lot of confidence going ahead.”

India dominated the Test match, batting for 152.2 overs in the first two days and dismissing West Indies twice in just 115 overs. This victory allowed India to recover from their loss in the WTC final and make a strong start to the next cycle.
