Xtra Time Web Desk: Ravichandran Ashwin starred with his best-ever Test performance away from home, taking a remarkable 12 wickets for 131 runs, leading India to a comprehensive innings-and-141-run victory over West Indies in the opening Test in Dominica. The home team struggled in their second innings, managing a meagre total of 130 runs.

As the pitch started offering increased turn on the third day, West Indies found themselves helpless against the Indian spin duo of Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja struck early by inducing an edge from Kraigg Brathwaite, which was unfortunately dropped by Ishan Kishan. However, Jadeja quickly made amends by dismissing Tagenarine Chanderpaul through an LBW decision. Chanderpaul's unsuccessful review couldn't save him.

Ashwin played a crucial role by dismissing Brathwaite, the West Indies captain, with a quick delivery that resulted in an edge caught by slip fielder Ajinkya Rahane. After the lunch break, the procession of wickets continued as Ashwin won an LBW decision against Jermaine Blackwood, who unsuccessfully reviewed the decision. In the following over, Jadeja claimed another victim as Raymon Reifer's LBW decision stood despite his review.

Mohammed Siraj joined the party, dismissing Joshua da Silva with an LBW decision. Alick Athanaze and Jason Holder offered some resistance. Athanaze, who had also impressed in the first innings with 47 runs, fell to Ashwin, caught at short leg. Ashwin continued his dominance by getting rid of Alzarri Joseph, Rahkeem Cornwall, and Jomel Warrican, ending West Indies' innings.

Earlier in the day, Yashasvi Jaiswal displayed an impressive innings of 171 runs on his Test debut, eventually being dismissed by Alzarri Joseph after a resilient knock spanning 387 balls. Virat Kohli contributed with a hard-fought 76 runs, while Jadeja remained unbeaten on 37. India declared their innings at 421 for 5 as soon as Kishan scored his first run.

The second and final Test will commence on July 20 at Queens Park Oval in Trinidad.
