Xtra Time Web Desk : Former Team India Captain and current Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly confirmed that the upcoming edition of the Ranji Trophy will take place as per pre planned schedule.


The steeply rising COVID-19 cases in the country had led to speculation regarding the tournament's future, but 'Dada' assured that the Ranji Trophy will go on as per the schedule.


In a recent statement to ANI, the Prince of Calcutta said, "Yes, the Ranji Trophy will proceed as planned," which is scheduled to start from January 13.


Also, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) announced that the local tournaments of First Division, Second Divison, and District would be put on hold after quite a few local cricketers tested positive for COVID-19 and also declared that an Emergency Apex Council would be convened to take necessary decisions and keep a watch on the current COVID situation.


The CAB recently in an official statement stated, "The CAB is also taking immediate steps to vaccinate the registered players who fall in the 15-18 age bracket since health and safety of the Cricketers and all concerned in the paramount to the association."


Earlier, multiple Mumbai and Bengal cricket team players and support staffs were tested positive for COVID-19 which led led to the speculation over the fate of India’s premier domestic competitive tournament.


Now, with COVID starting to wreck havoc in our country, it will be intriguing to see how BCCI manages to adjust with the situation to continue with the Ranji Trophy.
