Image Source: I-League[/caption] Internet Desk: Everyone anticipated this to be a cracker of a contest with the probable winners had the opportunity to take a good lead on the top of the points table. There was colour and there was noise as much but it didn’t yield any goals. Mohun Bagan played a goalless draw against their arch rivals in the Kolkata Derby in front of a full house at the Kanchenjunga Stadium in Siliguri. After the match, when www.xtratime.in caught Sanjoy Sen on the phone, he seemed very much relaxed after such a high-voltage game. He said, "I am not unhappy at all with the performance, trust me. If we win our next game against Mumbai FC on 15th, we will be level on points with East Bengal and will be jointly on the top of the points table with East Bengal." According to the Bagan coach, East Bengal was under huge pressure and that reflected on their game in the first half. He said, "I think they were in immense pressure at the start. That is why their intention was only to clear all the balls in the first half from their defence." The Bagan gaffer was happy with the way his team defended today. Sanjoy said, "The performance of my defenders relieved my today. The defence was not performing consistently because of injuries, but today they came out with flying colours." His team played some supreme attacking football in the first half. But in the second half they were literally outplayed by East Bengal. Sanjoy clarified, "There are spells in the game. They are a very strong side. You cannot attack throughout the game against such opposition. And that is what happened. But we played well today." Sanjoy was happy with the performance of Souvik Chakraborty. He said, "Souvik played really well. He played with a lot of confidence. East Bengal's Nikhil was operating with a lot of speed from the right and that forced Sony to play a bit defensive in the second half. But he impressed me with his defensive performance too." Sanjoy thanked Debjit for his match-saving save, "When your defenders commit a mistake, your goalkeeper needs to cash in. And that is what happened today. No doubt it was a superb run by Plaza but Edu should have cleared that early. But Debjit made a vital save." Indian national football team coach Stephen Constantine was also present to watch this high voltage game at Siliguri. He saw that brilliant save by Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Debjit Majumder. On being asked why he is not picking Debjit for the national side the gaffer added, ”I called Debjit last year during FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Turkmenistan, but unfortunately he didn’t show up.” Last year when Debjit got his maiden call up for India the club officials of Mohun Bagan didn’t release him, as they went to play an away game against Aizawl FC and their reserve goal-keeper Shilton Paul was also injured. Now the question is if Debjit never gets a chance for the Indian national team in future do the officials would take that responsibility? The Green and Maroon brigade will go to Mumbai directly from Siliguri tomorrow to play Mumbai FC and the performance of the defenders would certainly please him ahead of that away game.
