Kolkata: More than 40 schools all over Kolkata will be participating in the the fourth Inter School Shooting Championship which will be inaugurated on Wednesday at The Newtown School. Top city schools like the Heritage School, DPS Megacity, Calcutta Boys, St Xaviers Collegiate School will be competing against the district schools in this tournament. The main objective of the Joydeep Karmakar Shooting Academy (JKSA) is to involve more and more students in shooting. The four day competition will have 13 events including 3 special events.

According to Olympian Joydeep Karmakar, “I am looking forward some promising talent coming up during the next four days. Previously we have seen Mehuli, Aushi and Shreya coming up from this competition only. This year we have more number of participants and so I will be definitely expecting that a few more shooters will come up from this competition. This is a big opportunity for the shooters to get a big platform.”

An unique first of its kind shooting match called “Epic Duel”, a concept by Joydeep himself will be conducted on the final day i.e., on 2nd July. The two shooters in the “Epic Dual” are Kolkata’s Mehuli Ghosh and Jaipur’s Manini Kaushik. On being asked about it Joydeep replied,” That concept actually came in my mind few years back. But then I was not able to conceptualize it and this time I thought it should be introduced and I think the best way to introduce this kind of a competition will be taking Mehuli who is the best shooter in India right now in youth and junior category fighting it with Manini Kaushik who defeated Mehuli at the National Championship. It was the only individual championship where Mehuli lost to her.”
