Kolkata: The ace forward of Indian football who was known for his sublime back-volleys, Shyam Thapa is now officially the new Chairman of the Technical Committee and he replaces Bhaichung Bhutia. After being announced as the new Chairman of the Technical Committee of The AIFF, Shyam gave an exclusive interview to www.xtratime.in , here goes the interaction:
XT: What will be your proposal to develop Indian football?
Shyam: I was there in IFA Technical Committee as well. But this is a broader work. I will soon sit in a discussion with my new team and will decide. I will speak with the Federation as well to help improving the ranking of Indian football team.XT: What would be your role to improve the youth development?Shyam: I want to discuss about this as well. I don't know if I can interfere in the Youth development or not. Will discuss. XT: The national team coach Stephen Constantine faces several issues throughout the season. How do you want to fix those? Shyam: I will speak with Stephen. There has always been a problem between the club and the country while releasing the players. I will speak with both Stephen and clubs like East Bengal and Mohun Bagan to solve the issue. My question is why won't Stephen involve in the Youth development? To play an international friendly, we have camps for maximum 7-10 days. Honestly, for that, there is no need of spending that much for a foreign coach. Then what is the role of Constantine in the Indian team? XT: Would you like to take advice from the former footballers? Shyam: Yes, I want to speak with all the former footballers. I want to personally go to different states and discuss with the former players of the respective states.
