Pic Twitter.com[/caption] Internet Desk: India had a bad day on the opening day of US Open. The only hope in men’s singles Saketh Myneni bowed out after a tough fight. On the other hand world no.1 Novak Djokovic passed a troublesome first round. He won the match where he had gone under treatment also. Saketh Myneni reached the grand slam main round for the first time this year. There was a lots of hope on him as he reached the main round after a tough fight. But he disheartened in the first round. Yesterday it was a tough match for Myneni against Czech Jiri Vesely. The marathon match stretched for three hours and 47 minutes at Court 9. Myneni fought bravely for the better part of the match despite conceding the first set in a tie-breaker. Myneni, ranked 143 in singles, had a match point in the eighth game of the fifth set but stiffness in the right thigh restricted his movement badly and he was forced out 6-7 (5) 6-4 6-2 2-6 5-7 after battling hard for three hours and 47 minutes in a marathon first round match. In the fifth set Myneni was battling on and was leading 4-1 in the deciding final set. Both players were relentless and waited for the opponent to falter. But Vesely, five years his younger, and aided by Myneni’s cramps, utilised the opportunity holding his nerve to break the Indian thrice consecutively to recover from 2-5 to win the set. Finally he won by 5-7. Loosing the match Myneni lost the chance to play against world no.1 Djokovic who won his first match to advance to the second round. Djokovic won over Jerzy Janowicz of Poland by 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. However, there were plenty of signs of trouble, starting with a visit from a trainer who massaged Djokovic’s bothersome left arm after only five games. Asked about his health during an on-court interview, Djokovic deflected the question, saying, “I don’t think it’s necessary to talk about this now. I’m through. I’m taking it day by day.” Djokovic will play his next match against the winner over Myneni, Jiri Vesely. On the other hand Rafael Nadal had an easy win in his first match against Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan by 6-1, 6-4, 6-2. He advanced to the second round as he was never threatened by his opponent. He looked fit coming out of his injuries. Olympic gave him a lot of practice for the US Open to the former world no.1. Nadal will face Seppi of Italy in second round.
