Internet Desk: The eighteen time major winner and currently ranked fifth in the world rankings, Roger Federer is reported to miss the French Open and the rest of the clay court season.

The Swiss had decided to play the ATP Tour “for many years to come”.

The 35th year old will now will start preparing only for the hard-court and grass court tournaments and the practice begins from June.

The Roland Garros is scheduled to begin from 28th May.

“I need to recognize that scheduling will be the key to my longevity,” he said.

“Thus, my team and I concluded that playing just one event on clay was not in the best interest of my tennis and physical preparation for the remainder of the season.

“I will miss the French fans, who have always been so supportive and I look forward to seeing them at Roland Garros next year.”

The Swiss missed out the previous year’s Roland Garros on account of injury. This was the first time Federer missed the competition since his debut way back in 1999.

Federer had won the Roland Garros only once and had become the runners up for four times.

In this year Federer has won three titles which included the Australian Open which also happens to be the Swiss’s first Grand Slam after a long wait of five years.
Apart from the Australian open he had also won the BNP Paribas Open as well as the Miami Open.
