Internet Desk: Indian mixed doubles pair of Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna kept the hope for Olympic Medal alive by reaching the quarterfinals. In their first match of this Olympics they beat the Australian pair of Samantha Storus and John Peers.

The fourth seeded Indian pair who are being touted as India’s medal hope at the Olympics, won their opening round match 7-5, 6-4 in 73 minutes.
At the beginning of the game the Indian duo were not looking much confident to win the match. However, gradually in the first set they took the charge of the match. They broke the service of the Australian duo.
After gaining the advantage of 5-4 further the match got exiting by service breaks of both the teams. At last Indian pair managed to win the match by 7-5 within duration of 36minutes.

The second set began much like the first, with both teams holding serve. But even the Australians struggled to keep their service and a double fault from John Peers gifted the Indians an early break and they took a 3-2 lead before holding on to their own service game to surge ahead 4-2. Finally they won it by 6-4 by the timing of 37minutes.

“The conditions are tough, especially because it is very windy. We are used to the heat but this is harder,” Sania said after the match. “I have been saying this from the very beginning how tough it is going to be to win every match here,” Sania said. “We play multiple grand slam winners in every match, no matter who we play either the girl or the guy has won slams.

The pair Sania and Bopanna are going to face is yet to be decided as several matches of this Olympic were hampered due to rain and bad weather.
