Kolkata: BPTL 2017 will be one of its kinds, under the direct involvement of Bengal Tennis Association. The platform will provide an opportunity to the leading players of the city to mingle with the ATP, WTA & AITA ranked players of the country. Bengal Premier Tennis League will act as a big boost to tennis in Bengal and identify future tennis stars of India.

Renowned Bollywood director and a keen tennis follower Mr Shoojit Sircar will be the Brand Ambassador for this Tennis Premier League.

In a recorded message to the organizers, Shoojit Sircar said, “I love sports and I am always ready to do anything to support sports. Leagues have been happening for quite some time in the country in different sports disciplines – cricket, football, badminton etc. This initiative by Bengal Tennis Association will give an immense boost to tennis in the city. I am sure we are going to witness some top tennis players coming from all over the country. I hope this league becomes a celebrated tennis event in Bengal.”

In its inaugural year BPTL will have six teams from the state – Durgapur Crusaders, Midnapore Waves, Malda Slices, CEAC Bankura Horses, Howrah Hurricanes, and Kolkata Crusaders. Each team will have a top player of the country.
Vijay Kannan, who represented India in the Davis Cup during 2001-2004, will be the top draw among 48 players from all over the country take part. The tournament will start on April 18.

Each of the six franchises will have eight players in their side with six men’s and two women’s players. There will be five round of matches between two sides with two men’s singles, one women’s singles, one men’s doubles and a mixed doubles to be played.

The Tournament would be played on the six synthetic courts at the Bengal Tennis Association Complex in Salt Lake.
