World record holder attribute his success to Dravid

Untitled Kolkata: Gujarat's Samit Gohel made history on Tuesday by scoring 359* runs not out and thus taking his team's total to 641 against Odisha in the Ranji trophy Quarter Finals at Sawai Mann Singh Stadium in Jaipur. It is the the highest unbeaten score by an opening batsman in first-class cricket. The right handed opener hit his maiden triple century this morning in the ongoing match between Odisha and Gujrat, scoring 359* runs off 723 balls with the help of 45 fours and 1 six. With this milestone, Gohil also became the highest individual run-getter in Ranji Trophy, surpassing the record of Maharashtra's SM Gugale who scored 351* runs in the match against Delhi this season.
After the match talking to xtratime.in correspondent Sukarno Sen, an overwhelmed Samit said, "I was not aware of the record when i was playing on the field, my teammates gave me the news and congratulated me. Its a very good feeling that i have created a world record and my next target is to play consistently in the coming Semi-final match and steer the team to victory." It was also a 117 year old record which was broken by Samit. Bobby abel former England opener and Surrey in 1899 scored 357 not out in 515 minutes with 38 boundary and 1 over boundary as an opener. Samit broke the record by two runs. When asked what was the reason for his success in playing this marathon innings the Gujrat's Anand town boy said, "my captain Parthiv Patel has inspired a lot in changing my game. I used to play slow cricket as until the ball was 200 percent correct I never opted for attacking shots. He helped me change my mindset and told me to play more attacking shots. In this game i specifically changed my game and did a lot of thinking in playing my shots." Samit is an ardent follower of Ex-Indian team captain and batsman Rahul Dravid and considers Rahul Dravid as his idol in Cricket.  Samit still remembers clearly the day he met Rahul Dravid for 5-6 minutes at NCA in Bangalore on the year 2010-11 at the U-19 National camp. "I still remember what Rahul Sir said when we met him at NCA, he specifically told us how to concentrate ball by ball and stay positive at the back of the mind. Now i am trying to implement them in my game. I too have dreams to play for India like him," continued Samit. To keep a fit mind Samit watches motivational films like Mary Com, Milkha singh and carries inspiration from them. He is also conveyed his gratitude towards his parents, "My Father Bhanu bhai a local businessman and home maker Mother Ila Behen sacrificed a lot for my cricket, without them I won't have been successful, coming from a middle class family they have struggled a lot for me and they too are my prime motivators in playing cricket."
Proving his mettle, Gohil silenced all his critics, as the triple century not only help him improve his first class records but also earn an image of being a batsman who can deliver at the right time for the team. With this feat, he also become the second Gujrat batsman to score triple century only after PK Panchal (314* runs).
