Internet Desk: Wayne Rooney, 31, became this Saturday (21) the highest scorer in the history of Manchester United. The striker added a goal in the second half to secure a 1-1 draw with Stoke City away from home and went 250th in the team shirt, beating Bobby Charlton’s 249th.

Stoke had opened the scoring in the 19th minute of the first half when Mata scored a goal against them and won until the final 49 minutes. However, Rooney missed a perfect free kick and avoided the defeat of his team.

The result has led Manchester United to 41 points – Rooney’s team occupy sixth place in the current season of the English Premier League. Stoke City, meanwhile, reached 28 and is in ninth place.

The game, however, was worth much more for Rooney’s numbers. Revealed by Everton, the English striker was hired by Manchester United in 2004 and had made his first 249 goals in 543 matches. Bobby Charlton needed 758 games to reach that mark.

In another match, Lowly Swansea stunned hosts Liverpool at the Anfield Road Stadium with a 3-2 win on Saturday in the 22nd round of the English Premier League football competition.

After a goalless first half, Spanish forward Fernando Llorente opened the scoring for Swansea after three minutes in the second half. He then scored the second goal just five minutes later.

Brazil attacking midfielder Roberto Firmino drew level by scoring a goal for Liverpool in the 55th minute and an equaliser 14 minutes later.

Swansea insisted on pressing for a victory and lifted themselves off the bottom of the Premier League standings as Icelander Gylfi Sigurdsson scored the winner in the 74th minute.

After succumbing to a 0-4 defeat by Arsenal last week, Swansea coach Paul Clement praised his squad but acknowledged that “it would be naive” to ignore the possibility of relegation from the Premier League at the end of this season.

With this victory, Swansea moved up to the 17th position with 18 points. Liverpool remained provisionally in third place with 45 points.

Tottenham

In another match, Manchester City were unable to hold on to the advantage and conceded a 2-2 draw at Tottenham on Saturday at Etihad Stadium for the 22nd round of the Premier League. Despite the stumble, coach Guardiola has a reason to be happy: the Brazilian Gabriel Jesus, who entered the 36 minutes of the second half, created good chances, had a goal canceled by impediment and made a good impression.

The result was also bad for Tottenham’s pretensions in the pursuit of English leadership. The London team was 46 points, held in second place, but can see the disadvantage for the leader to increase on Sunday. The rival Chelsea has 52 points and receives the vice-lantern Hull City. City continued in fifth place, which is worth a place in the Europa League with 53 points.

The match had an electrifying first half, with Manchester City far superior, although the score was not changed before the interval. Tottenham goalkeeper Lloris made good saves on David Silva and Agüero. In addition, Zabaletta and Sané sent out great opportunities to move the marker.

On the way back to the second stage, the game maintained the high intensity and the owners managed to open two goals in less than ten minutes. After going well in the first half, Lloris failed twice.

In the third minute, the goalkeeper left the goal to intercept a throw outside the area. On his head, he sent Sané’s chest and the striker just pushed the ball towards the goal unprotected. Five minutes later, Sterling crossed to the right and Lloris fell in peace to get the ball, but did not hold it well and De Bruyne took the opportunity to kick and make 2 to 0 for City.

The goals seemed to arouse Tottenham, and the visiting team managed to cash in the 12th minute. Walker advanced on the right side and crossed in as far as Dele Alli headed for the net.

At 30, Sterling fired in the middle, invaded the area and, at the time of finishing, was pushed slightly by the rival defender and kicked badly for the defense of Lloris. However, Pep Guardiola made a great save, tipping the awkwardly curled shot past the post. Soon the next minute, Manchester City gave up the draw. Walker crossed and Harry Kane straightened to Son Heung-Min to kick in the right corner and tie the game.

Behind the win, Guardiola sent Gabriel Jesus to the place of Sterling at 36, and the Brazilian showed that he is fighting for a place in the starting line, setting fire to the match in his debut. The former palmeirense looked for a game, but could not leave his mark.

On his first play, Jesus went to the bottom line and crossed to the area, but did not find anyone. In the sequence of the bid, received a cross and headed with great danger over the goal. A minute later, the Brazilian rocked the networks for the first time in England, receiving crosses in the left tip and completing to the goal, but the arbitration signaled impediment of correct way. So the game ended tied 2 to 2.

Now the two teams have a week of training ahead before returning to the field. Next Saturday, in matches for the FA Cup, Manchester City faces Crystal Palace away from home, and Tottenham host Wycombe Wanderers.
