Kolkata: June 23 celebrated as the World Olympic Day saw a new charm in the city of Joy where a painting competition “Expression 2017” was held to promote Olympics as well as to promote world peace and harmony.

The above competition was held at St. Lawrence High School and the event was made hugely successful by the presence of eminent personalities like Olympians Joydeep Karmakar, Gurbax Singh as the highly renowned Roald Bradstock, also called as the “Olympic Picasso”.

Bradstock a former Olympian and an artist drew a painting which marked the start of the competition. Students of the St. Lawrence School of different classes participated in the competition.

“Olympics is the World’s largest sporting event. Mr. Bradstock came all the way from USA to promote this event but alas, the excitement for the sport has been missing in the students. However this is needed to a great extent, the students need to focus on other sports apart from Cricket or Football” said Joydeep Karmakar.

Father Sebastian James, the Principle of the school is of the opinion that “Our aim is to mix sports, culture and peace together. We have been working on this for the past years and the outcome as been well. We expect to spread this awareness to other schools. We also want to make this as a global movement and the response that we are receiving has been commendable”
