Nike edge past Adidas to win the commercial Clasico

Internet Desk: Irrespective of the result on Saturday night, there will be another bitter rivalry between two of the world’s famous sports brands – Nike and Adidas. On paper the North American organisation has a clear edge over their German counterpart. As many as 25 players are set to wear the iconic ‘tick’ on their boots in El Classico on Saturday. Nike has proven to be the most popular brand amongst some of the world’s biggest football stars.

The North American organization is the proud kit sponsor of Barcelona and they have recently signed a long-term extension worth 155 million euros a season.

Nike boasts of sponsoring 25 players out of which 13 currently represent Real Madrid, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos, Isco and Luka Modric.

In contrast, 19 players from both sides of the Clasico are currently sponsored by Adidas.

Ten players from Real Madrid – including James Rodrigues and Gareth Bale are endorsed by the German company while nine players from Barcelona including Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez spots the famous three stripes on their boots.

As such, a total 44 of the 46 players from both teams are currently sponsored by these two brands with Pepe – who wears Umbro – and Jordi Masip (Puma) the only two players partnered with other organisations.
