Basudeb Mondal, Debjit Majumder feels honoured
Kolkata: I League runners up Mohun Bagan is all set to take another historic initiative as the century old club from India is all set to wear a special kit, with four stars on the chest symbolizing three National Football League titles and one I-League title in the history of the club, from this I-League starting from 7th January.
The four stars will be over the Mohun Bagan Club Crest imprinted on the Player Jersey’s. The four Stars signifies the club winning the National League (1997-1998, 1999-2000, 2001-2002) & I-League in 2014-15.
This initiative will be the first time ever in the history of Indian football. The last few seasons have certainly been immensely satisfying for the Green and Maroon brigade and this intent from the officials would certainly motivate the players ahead of the much awaited I-League.
The New jerseys will certainly add new feathers to this heritage club of India and will set an example for the other clubs in the country. Former Mohun Bagan and Indian Captain Basudeb Mondal who helped the club to clinch three National Football League titles was literally ecstatic and proud to know this news from www.xtratime.in as he said, “Feeling so proud to know the news. I am feeling extremely happy and proud to be a part of this moment as I contributed my club to win three NFL titles. I have lost my words in ecstasy. Thanks to the club officials for recognizing our efforts for the club.”
Not just the former players, the I-League winning Mohun Bagan players too are feeling honored to be a part of this moment. Bagan’s ace goalkeeper Debjit Mazumder told www.xtratime.in, “We have seen foreign clubs to do such things over the years. The first ever I-League club is doing this and being part of that emblem add a special feeling. This is a memorable moment for all of us.” Souvik Chakraborty, another architect for Mohun Bagan’s maiden I-League triumph is happy as well as inspired to contribute to this historic move. He told, “Incredible feeling, I love this club a lot and this initiative from our club will inspire us to win another title this season to make it “five star” on the chest.”
The club has produced a lot of glorious moments in the history of the game in this country and this latest footstep would certainly be a reason for all the Mariners to be proud of.
