Kolkata: City giant Mohun Bagan lost to I-league leaders Minerva Punjab FC a couple of days back at the Salt Lake Stadium. After missing a penalty the Green & Maroon Brigade had given a release order to their Liberian striker Ansumana Kromah as his performance was not up to the mark in the ongoing I- League season. In just 48 hours span, the Bagan officials have announced his replacement as they signed Lebanese striker Akram Mograbi who played for Goan outfit Churchill Brothers in the 2012-13 I-League season. He played 10 matches for Churchill where he scored 10 goals too. Akram will apply for his visa today and would be reaching Kolkata ahead of the return leg of Kolkata derby.

“With immense pleasure we wish to state that Mohun Bagan have roped in Lebanese Striker Mr. Akram Moghrabi for 2017-18 season. The striker is in Lebanon and will apply for his visa today,” confirmed Mohun Bagan in a press-release.

The Green & Maroon Brigade are almost out of contention of winning the I-League. Now they will be aiming to beat East Bengal in the forthcoming Kolkata Derby on January 21 to remain in the hunt of the League. It will be interesting to see whether  Moghrabi’s inclusion in the squad help Mohun Bagan to make a late come back in the league.

Moghrabi is one of the best strikers in Lebanon, and was the top scorer in the Lebanese premier league for the season 2016-2017. He is well known for scoring in the last minutes. His most famous goals are against Ahed in minute 107, against Ansar in minute 119, against Ghazieh in minute 95, and against Chillong in minute 92.
