Internet Desk: East Bengal’s anchor man in midfield, Mehtab Hossain is likely to hang his boots after next season. The diminutive midfielder was retained by his franchise Kerala Blasters for another season in the Indian Super League. He was signed by the Blasters on loan from East Bengal. Mehtab will be hoping to improve on the 9 outings he had for the Blasters last season.

In his glorious career spanning more than a decade, Mehtab has won all the major titles in club football (except I League) in India. He won the Federation cup for Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan (2006) and East Bengal (2007,2009,2010,2012). He was a vital member of the East Bengal team that made history winning the Kolkata league for a consecutive six times starting from 2010. He also made 29 appearances for the national team scoring 2 goals. He was voted the best Indian player of the season by FPAI.

Mehtab, who is now aged 31 years has still got a lot of football left in him. According to him, “I still have my contract with East Bengal for another year. If the club wish to terminate my contract I will leave. I will never think twice about leaving if it benefits the club. I still maintain I have always loved donning the Red and Gold colours. I want the good wishes of the East Bengal fans to play well in the forthcoming season.”
