Kingfisher East Bengal lost to Mohammedan Sporting  by a solitary goal in the charity  match held at the Sailen Manna Stadium here at Howrah.The only goal of the match was  scored by Bijoy Mandi during the 9th minute of first half  .The match was organized to raise funds for the treatment of 4 year old cancer patient Joydeep Koruli.

Although it was a charity match but there were heated exchanges between the footballers . Kingfisher East Bengal coach found it really tough to field an eleven as most of his footballers are busy playing in the ongoing ISL . The standard  of  the match never rose due to the absence of several key players . Both Ranty Martins and Bello Rassaq featured in the first eleven for East Bengal .

Both teams started the match on a cautious note.The only goal of the match came through  Bijoy mandi scored 9 minutes into the first half. After conceding the goal East Bengal started to press for the equalizer but the Mohammedan defence led by Saikat Saha Roy stood firm .Mohammedan custodian Priyant Singh made some breathtaking saves to deny East Bengal footballers a goal . The footballers from both teams were not in the mood to play a friendly match as there were heated exchanges,resulting in a head injury to Saikat Saha Roy.There was huge excitement amongst the 14000 odd spectators mostly East Bengal supporters to see a glimpse of East Bengal’s Korean sensation Do Dong Hyun but the crowd left disappointed as Biswajit Bhattacharya  preferred  to rest him . East Bengal coach was not concerned with the result as it was the cause not the result that mattered for him . Goal scorer Bijoy Mandi felt exited to have contributed to the winning cause for his team .

The main attraction in today’s match were the presence of Atletico de Kolkata footballers Ofentse Nato,Mohanraj and Rahim Nabi .Also present were WB Agriculture minister Arup Roy, MP Sultan Ahmed, Mr Iqbal Ahmed, singer Jojo , Tollywood actors Ankush and Mimi Chakraborty.The organisers handed over a cheque of Rs two lakhs to the family of Joydeep Koruli,
