Kolkata: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has heaped high praises on Karun Nair for his maiden triple ton against England on Monday. The knock played by Nair reminded Ganguly of the famous triple ton Virender Sehwag scored against Pakistan in Multan in 2004.

According to Ganguly, “This is an excellent feat by the youngster. His knock today reminded me of Sehwag at Multan in 2009.”

Asked to compare both the knocks Ganguly felt, “These are two knocks played by two different players in different era. It would not be fair to compare both the knocks.

There was another similarity with the match in Chennai. Sachin Tendulkar’s 194 was overshadowed much like KL Rahul’s 199 runs knock.

Sourav also ruled out any comparison between Karun Nair and Virender Sehwag after the former followed the latter’s footsteps to become only the second Indian to score a triple hundred in Test cricket.

Sehwag had first achieved the feat against Pakistan in Multan in 2004 before doing it again against South Africa in Chennai in 2008. Since then no other Indian batsman got close. Sehwag himself almost scored a record triple ton but fell short by seven runs against Sri Lanka in Mumbai in 2009.

Nair became the youngest Indian and sixth youngest overall to score a triple hundred. He also became the third batsman after Garfield Sobers and Bob Simpson to convert his first hundred into a triple ton.

Meanwhile the CAB President called on the Bengal coach and captain to discuss on the failure in Ranji Trophy at the Eden Gardens. Both Manoj Tiwary and Sairaj Bahutule had a detailed explanation as to where they went wrong. Among the various points discussed a key issue discussed in the meeting was about Pragyan Ojha’s off form with the ball. But the left arm spinner got the support of the others as everyone in the meeting felt the wickets were not conducive to spin bowling. India ODI bowler Axar Patel too had only 7 wickets to his kitty this season.

According to Sourav, “We do not have a problem with Pragyan Ojha. He has tried his best to do well but then the spinners overall has failed to shine with the ball.”

The CAB President emphasized on the forthcoming T-20 tournament. According to him, “This is just a review meeting. We hope to do well in the future tournaments i.e., T-20 tournamanet.
