Jasprit Bumrah starts bowling seven overs a day at the NCA, targets return from Ireland tour

Xtra Time Web Desk: Indian cricket fans have reason to celebrate as Jasprit Bumrah’s recovery progress brings hope for his return to action soon. The star fast bowler has commenced bowling seven overs a day as part of his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) following his back surgery. Although there is uncertainty surrounding his participation in the forthcoming five-match T20 series against Ireland, the upcoming practice matches will play a crucial role in determining his workload management. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) aims to get him fit for the Asia Cup in August, which will serve as preparation for the World Cup.

While the Indian selectors are yet to announce the squad for the T20I series against the West Indies, it appears unlikely that Bumrah will be included in that series. However, the subsequent series against Ireland, scheduled for August 18, 20, and 23, is being targeted for his comeback. The Indian team management wants to assess Bumrah’s readiness in T20 matches before considering him for the 50-over format, with the ultimate goal of having him fully prepared for the World Cup through the Asia Cup.

Bumrah has been sidelined since September of the previous year due to back problems and subsequent surgery. Currently, he is undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA and has reportedly achieved a 70% recovery. With approximately two months until the Ireland series, the team management is not only hopeful but also optimistic about his availability. The crucial factor for his return lies in his performance in real-time matches, and he is expected to play a few games at the NCA next month. The team intends to assess his response to the workload, particularly the day after a game, before making a decision on including him in the Ireland series.
