Ricky Ponting-Sourav Ganguly heated argument with umpire

Xtra time Web Desk: Who would have ever thought that Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly would fight for the same cause someday, but such is the beauty of IPL – it happened. On Thursday, 28th March during the IPL game between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur, Ponting and Ganguly were spotted arguing with the umpire.

How did it start?

The drama started when Royals captain Sanju Samson was spotted calling Rovman Powell into the field after the second ball of the first over. Ponting, who was in the dugout, spotted this and started flinging his arms in the air. That is when the fourth umpire came out with a paper in his hand to explain what exactly happened. While the fourth umpire was trying to explain the rules to Ponting, Ganguly, who was just behind the DC coach, got in the conversation.

A look at what the IPL rules say -

RULE 1.2.5: Each team may not play more than 4 Overseas players (as defined in the IPL Player Regulations) in its starting eleven for any match.

RULE 1.2.6: A team may not have more than 4 Overseas players on the field of play at any time during any Match. Thus, if the team names the maximum 4 Overseas players in its starting XI, an Overseas player may only take the field as a substitute fielder if the player that he is replacing is an Overseas player. If the team names less than 4 Overseas players in its starting XI, Overseas players may only enter the field of play as substitute fielders to the extent that by doing so, they do not take the total number of Overseas players representing that team on the field to more than 4.
