Xtra Time Web Desk: They say sports is a great leveller and it was evident once again as Umran Malik found himself dropped by the Sunrisers Hyderabad management for the IPL 2023 game against Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday. The reason cited for Umran’s exclusion is his poor performance in the previous seven matches. The decision to drop Umran can be a setback for him, as he is regarded as the pace spearhead of Sunrisers Hyderabad side.

Umran has struggled in the ongoing season so far. The Jammu & Kashmir pacer picked only 5 wickets from 7 matches this season. Umran has also leaked runs with an economy rate of 10.35.

However, he must perform well in the upcoming matches, as a poor IPL season can push him back a little as there is tough competition to find a place in the Indian team.

The decision to drop Umran Malik from the playing XI might come as a little bit harsh as every player goes through bad patches. A youngster like Umran should be backed as by dropping him his confidence is also shattered.  But in a tournament like the IPL, the franchises have often taken tough decisions, at times harsh as well.

As for Umran Malik, he must perform well in the upcoming matches, and in the domestic circuit to get back his confidence. He has the talent and potential, but all he needs to work on is his consistency.
